A Day of Street Portrait Photography with...yours truly!

June 21, 2025

I certainly can’t be accused of being too quick to report what’s being going on in my photography life, however I thought I should mark being featuring in an episode on Tim Jaimeson‘s YouTube channel in this blog. Those of you who don’t know, Tim Jamieson is a highly regarded street photographer and YouTuber. Out of the blue he contacted me in early January this year and asked if I would be interested in doing a UK version of Paullie B’s walkie-talkie Youtube videos. If you’ve not seen them , the concept is where the interviewer walks along with the photographer to catch their thoughts and (hopefully) some images along the way. Having a face for radio my immediate inclination is to turn these things down,  however having featured in a frame lines magazine interview last year, I thought it was a good opportunity to test my metal and see whether I could shoot the walk and not just talk the talk.

I have to say, if I wanted to make it as challenging as possible, filming on a particularly cold , slate grey day January Saturday in Birmingham city Centre, would be high on the list.

Tim is as charming and inquisitive gentlemen off camera as he is on. You can immediately see he cares deeply about his craft and relishes the opportunity to genuinely engage with people to expand his knowledge and to share it on a wider platform.

I really enjoyed the process but was very nervous of the reaction of viewers once released in to the wild. I needn’t have worried, as the feedback was touching in its kindness and positivity. Being cited as an inspiration to get out and make work is something I will always cherish. I could have easily been camera shy and turned this wonderful opportunity down, but I’m so grateful I didn’t. Thank you Tim!

The shifting verticals and horizontals of Milton Keynes
The shifting verticals and horizontals of Milton Keynes

I was obviously a good boy in 2019, as at Christmas, Santa Claus flew via Japan and got me a 75mm f4.5 shift lens for my Pentax 67II. Where better to test the precise verticals than the clean lines of Milton Keynes…

It has nearly been 12 months since I got my hands on a Rolleiflex 2.8f, and whilst I'm not usually a reviewer of equipment, I'd like to share my experience of using this iconic camera and the inspiration behind me finally owning one.
